This green man is the first multi-weft double weave piece I produced using pickup. The green man is an ancient and now poorly understood nature figure who appears as a foliated head in churches throughout Europe. This green man image was derived from the Haindl Tarot deck’s Emperor who is depicted as one with nature. It seems appropriate that this green man disappears when examined too closely. This piece was shown at the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers 2002 annual exhibit where it won second prize in wall hangings.
My next multi-weft double weave piece was woven in memory of my cat Katya and is titled burning bright. It was shown at the Small Expressions 2002 Handweavers Guild of America exhibit in Vancouver, British Columbia as well as at the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers 2003 annual exhibit where it won third prize in wall hangings.
Another of my multi-weft double weave pieces, Recollecting #1, won first prize in the Small Expressions 2003 Handweavers Guild of America exhibit as well as first prize in wall hanging at the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers 2003 annual exhibit.
