Designing for a Jacquard loom was like designing for a 1260 shaft dobby loom threaded in 4 repeats of straight draw with thousands of yards of 30/2 unbleached cotton warp set at 90 ends per inch. This warp worked well for double weaves, satins and twills but was too densely packed to allow weaving tabby without damaging the loom.
Most of the samples shown here are double weaves woven in weft-faced 5 shaft satins. The last sample on the bottom right has a weft backed weave structure.
